The Old Biscuit Mill hosts the nicest Hippie Market I have yet visited and also some interesting shops, the most fun of which is ”Clockwork Orange, Mid Century Modern”.

Clockwork Orange is full of awesome awesome things from the 70’s and 80’s that I want but would never spend my money on. The best one was this fantastic vintage Millennium Falcon.

Regular people can stop reading at this point (actually, to be fair, regular people probably don’t care about scale models of fictional space craft either, so I expect they have already stopped reading).

After months of idle threats, I have finally made the switch to Ubuntu. I am a long time GIMP evangelist, so post processing is no issue, but I have been struggling to find something I like for RAW conversions and photo management. This one was converted with Rawstudio, which is by far the best I have tried. Still outrageously slow though (come to think of it, so is GIMP on linux, whats with that?). If anyone has any smart suggestions, I would love to hear ’em.

Soccer World Cup fever was back for a day as everyone in cape town turned out to watch the demolition of the Athlone cooling towers.
Unfortunately, I had to basically shoot from the hip, since the man with the big red button was a bit over-enthusiastic and blew the charges 3 minutes early.

I had this composition and moody vibe in my head when I took the picture, but I had a feeling it wouldn’t work, so, imagine my suprise when it did (at least, I think it did).

I don’t want to be one of those people, but seriously, it looks way better when viewed large.

I am not terribly impressed with this picture, but I haven’t shared anything in so long, I thought I may as well post it.

It’s all a big internet fad at the moment to make life size things look like miniatures with tilt-shift techniques, but I am much more interested in making tiny scenes look life sized, which is what I was trying to do here.

In retrospect, I don’t think I should have included the foliage, it just clutters the composition.

Alys and I spent a long weekend in the bungalow at Leeuwenboschfontein. The stars are just amazing from there.

I was a bit limited by my plasticky tripod blowing in the wind. The fact that there was nowhere to charge my battery also meant I only had one or two shots at this (these long exposures eat batteries for breakfast… or midnight snacks I suppose).

The perfectly moonless night makes for nice dark sky, but it also means there is no definition in the terrain.

We were messing around with EL wire and off-camera flash.

Cycling in winter after work is a constant race against fading light, so we decided stop fighting it and do some photos instead of training.

Playing around with long exposures again. See if you can figure out what is actually going on here.

This particular exposure was about 3 miutes, at f22. The tiny aperture results in those awesome little starbursts.
